Journalism and Media

Before beginning my journey into social work and community development I spent ten years working in film, television, print and online media

AsiaLIFE

AsiaLIFE Magazine is a free monthly lifestyle magazine published in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  In my role as Managing Editor I conceptualised the monthly themes, commissioned and managed contributing writers, photographers and designers, edited all magazine material and oversaw editorial, design and print operations. I also developed job descriptions for key roles as our company grew and managed the hiring and performance review processes.

Kids Go Global is an an innovative website aimed at educating Calgary school children about global issues by connecting classrooms in Calgary with school children in lower-income countries. In my role as content manager I created all website content and liaised with partner NGOs and participating Calgary Board of Education Schools.

The Phnom Penh Post is the leading daily newspaper in Cambodia. In my role as Chief Copy Editor I developed comprehensive style guides for both the daily newspaper and the weekly supplements. I wrote copy, created headlines, edited and fact checked all newspaper content and weekly supplements and ensured consistent approach based on publication style.

Film & Television

I worked in the Alberta film and television industry for five years. I was fortunate to be able to work on feature length films, documentaries, television dramas, music videos, commercials and public service announcements. I worked in a variety of roles beginning as a locations production assistant and worked my way through from script writer, to production coordinator, to art director, to production manager and associate producer.
